This year, Stellar Vista Observatory is launching the Solar Science Experience, a hands-on STEM learning workshop to help school-aged children learn more about our closest and favorite star: the Sun.

Through engaging activities, participants will learn about how UV light affects our skin, why solar storms can cause problems for us here on earth, and they will get up close and personal with the Sun courtesy of the state-of-the-art Coronado Solarmax III 70mm double stack solar telescope. Using a specialized hydrogen-alpha filter this solar scope allows viewers to safely observe solar flares, sun spots, and even texture on the surface of the sun! We are so excited to show students how dynamic and beautiful the Sun really is.

The Solar Science Experience is based on the Our Magnetic Sun curriculum developed by the NASA Night Sky Network and is funded in part by a $2500 grant from the Utah STEM Action Center. We would so appreciate your support in making this program a reality and enhancing STEM education for students in Kane County.
